Formed in 2007, out of late night jam sessions held in Leeds’ Sela Bar, Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra combine their joint love of afrobeat with their appreciation of the space jazz pioneers of the 70’s and the free jazz trailblazers of the 60’s, coupled with a hefty nod towards James Brown. Individually they have been lucky enough to perform with the likes of The New Mastersounds, The Haggis Horns, Kidkanevil, Homecut and Ty, to name a few.  In 2010, Ariya released their debut album, recorded a session for Craig Charles' BBC 6Music show and were hightlighted by Jamie Cullum as one of his favourite new acts of the year.
